GPR Survey for Utilities at Yale Biology Building, New Haven, CT
Earth Technologies, Inc. was hired by Whiting-Turner Construction Company to perform excavation work for the construction of a new biology building at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. The sitework plans required that a ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey be performed prior to excavation to identify subsurface utilities and other anomalies. We performed a GPR survey of the entire site and determined the location and depth of all existing utilities, including several abandoned and unidentified lines not depicted on site plans. One of the unidentified lines detected during the survey was a water line Yale University maintenance personal did not know existed. Discovering the existence of this line saved them from spending an additional $100,000 for the installation of a new line.
